The game features a total of 23 characters. Returning from Tekken 3 are Bryan Fury, Heihachi Mishima, Hwoarang, Jin Kazama, Julia Chang, King II, Kuma II, Lei Wulong, Ling Xiaoyu, Nina Williams, Panda, Paul Phoenix, and Yoshimitsu. With Eddy Gordo there are 14 characters returning from Tekken 3, but Eddy appears only in the console version as a playable character. In Arcade Version, he makes a cameo appearance in Christie Monteiro's Ending. In addition, there are three characters from Tekken 2 who make their return to the canon series (two of them have previously appeared in the non-canon Tekken Tag Tournament): Kazuya Mishima, Lee Chaolan, and Marshall Law.
