Need for Speed Rivals is a racing game and features gameplay similar to earlier Need for Speed titles, such as Criterion's Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.[2] Rivals uses the Frostbite 3 engine.[3] The development team opted to target 30 FPS across all platforms instead of 60 FPS, because of the AllDrive feature.[4]
AllDrive is the system used to seamlessly matchmake players within the same open world. Another reason was due to the number of players able to be in the same world at the same time.[4]
